Losing a lot of weight helps in some ways, but it is also very traumatic at times, in ways that most people cannot understand. It doesn't seem to make sense to me, and may even seem unreasonable to those who haven't walked in our shoes! As I see it: we didn't "insulate" ourselves with fat for "no reason" and now that a lot of our "insulation" is melting away, there are emotional issues, situations and varying amounts of fear that must be dealt with. We must discover new, healthy ways to deal with what threatens us or we will be doomed to replenish the "fat barrier" that served us quite well in keeping life "at arms length."
Maybe we should treat our emotions like a child treats new types of food on his plate; stir them around 'til we're sure what they are, rather than 'eating them' or forcing them down in order to please someone else!

ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's been over 5 years since I wrote this! I'm still learning how to cope with life without retreating to my old ways of eating sugars and carbs. Still hoping to lose the rest of my weight in the coming year(another 165lbs at least).
