Being near death due to carrying around 513 lbs changed my perspective. Once I found that getting rid of all sugars and starches released the fat stores in my body it became a lot easier to tune out the naysayers and daily temptations of eating like everyone else. The desire to lose weight has to take priority over everything else! It became my full-time job! Every food choice takes priority and kills any embarrassment over social situations, other people's ideas, expectations, and opinions. For most people losing weight is not an emergency and it's easy to give in to temptations and put off losing 'til another day. Having been at that 'do or die' point it's a bit easier for me to just say "No, Thank you" to carbs, and continues to give me the strength to fight never to be there again. I still have a long way to go but I've begun to live again and no food is worth triggering my addiction and the risk of going back!! Whether you have 20lb to lose or 200lbs, it makes no difference; if you make losing weight your priority, it will happen! p.s. I follow The Weigh Station diet with Dr. Chuck Shaffer in Virginia, which is very similar to Dr. Eric Westman's "No Sugar, No Starch" diet.
